Starting from Wednesday, and approximately monthly, we will meet in 64119, to discuss some concrete pedagogical issue that has occurred in our teaching practices. There will be a short presentation of the issue followed by discussions.

Abstract: Hard simple problems
On a recent linear algebra exam, a clear majority of the students claimed that the subspace of R^4 described by the equation x + y + z + w = 0, has dimension 4. (They did much better on the task of determining the null space of a given 3x4-matrix.)
What has gone wrong and what should we do about it?
